  • [01] Pavlopoulos to Erdogan: Nothing can or will divide Greece and Turkey in the common battle against terrorism

President of Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos on Sunday spoke on the phone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Greek president expressed the Greek people's abhorrence and unequivocal condemnation over the terror attack in Istanbul as well as the condolences to the victims' families.

Moreover, Pavlopoulos reassured Erdogan that nothing can or will divide Greece and Turkey in the common battle against terrorism.

[02] I am disappointed by IMF's stance, says FinMin Tsakalotos

"I am disappointed by International Monetary Fund's stance" stated Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos in an interview with the Sunday newspaper RealNews.

"It is absent from the negotiation and does not give a single battle to support its report that austerity can't be the solution to the programme. Neither it presses the Europeans to converge towards its position that higher debt relief is necessary or that the target of 3.5 pct primary surpluses is not possible".

Tsakalotos clearly stated that there will be no additional measures in 2019 and 2020.

Moreover, he opined that if the workers do not participate in the benefits of the recovery "then Europe and the eurozone will dissolve" because "the extreme-right populists and the centrifugal forces in Europe are getting stronger every day".

Finally, the Greek Finance Minister noted that "most of the players (in the Greek political scene) do not want elections or a Grexit", because the current conditions in Europe, the Brexit, the refugees issue and the imminent general elections in many EU member-states, will contribute in order a political solution to be found for Greece.

Besides, if a country leaves the eurozone, more countries will follow. When a country leaves the eurozone the markets will crush the next country that will leave, concluded Tsakalotos
