[01] UNHCR to replace tents with prefabricated houses in eight refugee
centers around Greece
The UN's refugee agency (UNHCR) announced on Thursday it will replace
the tents used by refugees with prefabricated houses in eight camps
and centers around Greece.
The agency said the aim is to make refugee housing suitable for
winter. The project will be undertaken with the help of the European
Commission's humanitarian aid department.
[02] DEPA and Attica group to jointly examine conversion of group's
fleet to LNG fuels
The Greek public gas company DEPA and Attica Group, owner of Superfast
Ferries and Blue Star Ferries, on Thursday signed an agreement for
the use of liquified natural gas (LNG) by the group's passenger ships
and ferries.
The two companies said they will jointly examine the parameters and
requirements for the use of LNG in the Attica Group fleet and then decide
the next steps on the basis of their conclusions.
DEPA and Attica Group both participate in the European programme Poseidon
Med II, which seeks to establish LNG as the main fuel of the shipping
industry and develop an adequate LNG refuelling network for ships. DEPA
is coordinator of the five-year project, which ends in 2020 and includes
Greece, Italy and Cyprus.
