[01] Progress in negotiations, issues of 2nd review dominate first
government meeting with institutions
The progress made so far in negotiations and the issues that will
dominate the second review of Greece's program were discussed in
the first meeting between the government and representatives of the
institutions in Athens on Sunday, finance ministry sources said.
Both sides expressed their willingness to complete the review within the
specified framework, the sources said. The government was represented by
Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos, Economy Minister Giorgos Stathakis
and Alternate Finance Minister Giorgos Chouliarakis.
The first round of talks with the representatives of the institutions
is expected to conclude on October 27 and the heads of the institutions
will return after the Eurogroup on November 7. The EuroWorking Group will
convene at the end of November and the government wants the review to
be closed by then, so that after the Eurogroup on December 5, the two
sides will start discussing debt relief and the participation of the
IMF in the Greek program. According to the government, the timeframe to
complete these talks is Christmas.
In other meetings on Sunday, the government and the institutions will
discuss boosting entrepreneurship, the out-of-court settlement of
non-performing loans and reforms in labour law.
