[01] The tender for TV licences safeguards the interests of the State,
Pappas says
"In order to safeguard the interests of the State in a tender, the
information among the competitors must be prevented. That is why the
procedure was planned this way," State Minister Nikos Pappas said on
Tuesday in an interview with public broadcaster ERT in reply to comments
on the strict rules imposed.
"The current tender, pursuant to the Constitution, ensures that it will
maximize the price for the Greek government and the conditions will be
clear," he underlined.
Asked to comment on the stance of the main opposition that it does not
recognize the tender, the State Minister stressed that "New Democracy
must change this position today."
"I think it is an insult to the intelligence of the Greek citizen and
that is why it needs to state immediately that it will recognize the
result of the competition," he said and added: "This tender will award
for the first time in Greece legal licences, and the identification
of New Democracy with some very specific and particular interests is,
I think, very negative."
For those who criticize the government for not waiting for the Council
of State's decision, Pappas said: "We respect the justice and we hold
the tender based on the Constitution."
[02] Migrants and refugees in Mytilene exceed 15 pct of city's residents
ANA/Over 5,000 migrants and refugees are currently on Lesvos
island including 90 persons that reached the coast of Mytilene early
Tuesday. The number of trapped migrants and refugees exceeds 15 percent
of the residents of Mytilene. On Monday, 175 migrants and refugees
arrived on Lesvos and 88 on Limnos while no arrivals were recorded on
the island of Samos.
