[01] Telephone poll by 'Bridging Europe' shows SYRIZA ahead by 5.8 pointsRuling coalition leader SYRIZA was shown to have a comfortable lead of 5.8 points over main opposition New Democracy in voting intention, in a nationwide telephone poll by Bridging Europe released on Friday. The poll was carried out over a two-day period from 13-15 June, using a sample of 1,072 individuals.Asked to name which party they intend to vote for, 22.1 pct said SYRIZA, followed by 16.3 pct for ND, 7.7 pct for Golden Dawn, 4.8 pct for Democratic Alliance (PASOK-DIMAR), 7.2 pct for the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), 1.2 pct for Potami, 3.1 pct for the Independent Greeks (ANEL), 2.8 pct for the Centrists' Union, 2.2 pct for Popular Unity, 2.7 pct for Course to Freedom, 1.8 pct for Antarsya, and 1.5 pct for 'other', while 26.6 pct replied 'Don't know/Won't Answer'. On the government's handling of the economic crisis, 51 pct said its handling was better than that of previous governments, 26 pct said it was worse and 23 pct replied 'Don't know/ Won't answer'. On whether better days for the country and society were coming upon the conclusion of the first review of the Greek adjustment programme, 47 pct said 'no', 25 pct said 'yes' and 28 pct said 'Don't know/Won't answer'. Asked if this government will place more emphasis on issues of unemployment, poverty, and growth in the coming months, 51 pct said 'yes', 26 pct said 'no' and 23 pct said 'Don't know/Won't answer'. To a question on whether they were satisfy with the degree of implementation of the legislative work in daily life until now, 33 pct said 'yes', 48 pct said 'no' and 19 pct said 'Don't know/Won't answer'. Another 22 pct said they were satisfied with the result of the negotiations between Greece and the institutions, though only 24 pct said they were well informed about the contents of the agreement, and 43 pct considered that the government had "made the greatest possible effort" for an agreement on the issue of the debt. A further 44 pct considers that the creation of the new privatisation fund for exploiting state assets will bring investments and employment opportunities.
