  • [01] PM Tsipras: The first left-wing government must make big changes

The first left-wing government should leave a footprint of claiming major changes in the State, the political system and the institutions, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said in a speech at the meeting of SYRIZA's political secretariat.

During the meeting, party members had a first general discussion on the constitutional revision and change of the electoral law.

According to party sources, Tsipras said that the Left "should not be regarded merely as the power to best manage the crisis, because if the crisis is managed without vision and great changes it will soon evolve into a crisis in management".

He said the government must therefore implement deep changes to the political system adding that it will aim to consolidate democratic and social rights, and protect public goods as part of the revision.

"The country needs a deep democratic change. We must start a broad process of dialogue towards a new constitution, the 2021 Constitution of Greece," he said.

[02] ANA-MPA launches new sports webpage

The Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) launched a new sports page on Thursday, titled "Praktoreio sport", aiming to make it an independent voice in real sports.

The webpage will gather news from all sports on a daily basis, with its emphasis placed in the coming days on the "king of sports", the 2016 UEFA European Championship starting on Friday.

Speaking at the event to mark the launch of the website, Deputy Minister for Sports Stavros Kontonis spoke of a "window of hope" that opens with the new webpage, while he criticized intensely the shortcomings of the sector and a section of the sports press which serves specific interests. "To a large extent, the football-centered press is partisan. We see deceptive press reports based on a lie," the minister said.

On his side, the president and general director of ANA-MPA, Mihalis Psilos, said this is the 10th project of the news agency. "The aim is to maintain a sport spirit and not a partisan spirit. We want to give all federations a voice, as well as 'poor' sports," he explained.
