  • [01] We legislate based on the EU acquis, anti-corruption sec gen says

We legislate based on the EU acquis and there is no preferential treatment for deputies, anti-corruption secretary general George Vassiliadis on Monday said in statements to public broadcaster ERT in the aftermath of the debate between the government and the main opposition regarding a provision of the omnibus bill referring among others to offshore companies.

Vassiliadis underlined that having money to countries of the OECD black list is banned. The list is recognised by the ministry an updated every year.

"There is no distinction for deputies transferring their money abroad," Vassiliadis stated and cited the example of Cayman Islands, which were removed this year from the black OECD list because Britain has guaranteed that it would provide information to tax authorities.

The greatest part of the tax declarations is handed over to the committee for money laundering, Vassiliadis noted rejecting claims for money laundering.

The secretary general also said that for the first time economic prosecutors have confirmed more than 300 million euros from the Lagarde list and are now looking into the Borjans list.

[02] PM Tsipras to meet Council of Europe's parliamentary assembly president Agramunt

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will meet with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Pedro Agramunt.

The meeting will take place at 12.45, at Maximos Mansion.

[03] Politicians cannot own offshore companies or have their money abroad, Potami leader says

Politicians cannot own offshore companies or have their money abroad, Potami leader Stavros Theodorakis said in statements to private Mega TV on Monday adding that those who do so they should be forced to transfer their money back.

Theodorakis also accused those politicians who want to save the country and at the same time have tansferred their money abroad, "somewhere safe."

The leader of Potami party reiterated that the new taxes will not bring revenues and proposed a different reading of the memorandum that will be based on cutting expenses and imposing new taxes.

[04] ND should not become another ring in the chain of the memoranda governments, says ND leader Mitsotakis

"As of September the Greeks' everyday life will be much worse," main opposition New Democracy (ND) leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an interview with Antenna TV on Monday and expressed his certainty that the economy will not recover.

"Tsipras told us a very nice fairytale and now the citizens are turning their back to him," noted Mitsotakis and claimed that "Tsipras gave everything and received nothing" noting that the agreement has not yet closed and the discussion for the debt has been postponed for sometime in the future."

Referring to ND's call for elections, he said that he is not in rush but the country is. "This government is a huge damage for the country. That's why we call for elections and we will take advantage of the time to get better."

Regarding the meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a few days in Luxembourg on the sidelines of the EEP event, Mitsotakis clarified that nobody urged him to support the govermnent's policy. "Nobody has pressed me; I have not received any phone call indicating the stance I should keep. My obligation is before the Greek citizens. It's me who must persuade Mrs Merkel that we have another plan for the exit from the crisis."

"My aim is ND not to become another ring in the chain of the governments of memoranda", he concluded.
