[01] Cenbanker: If there's a deal on May 24, then capital controls will be liftedThe Eurogroup on May 24 will result in a deal between Greece and its creditors, Greece's central banker said on Thursday, adding that if there's a deal, then the capital controls will eventually be lifted.Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of an event organized by the Federation of Industries of Northern Greece (SBBE) where he was a keynote speaker, Bank of Greece Governor Yiannis Stournaras said: "If we have the agreement on May 24 and everything goes according to plan, then the capital controls will be lifted." Asked to specify when exactly they could be lifted, he said this would depend on the progress of the Greek economy. "They will be lifted when trust in the Greek economy has been restored. I cannot say when today, and I'm not in the habit of making such predictions. However, when we have a deal, we'll see developments," he added. Stournaras also said the imminent deal will end a period of uncertainty adding that if Greece then implements what the agreement includes, the economy will soon return to growth. [02] More 95 pct of farmers will not pay a single euro after tax/pension reforms, minister tells ANA-MPAThe vast majority of farmers will not be affected by the new income tax and pension reform laws approved last Sunday by Greece's parliament, Rural Development and Food Minister Vangelis Apostolou told ANA-MPA in an interview on Thursday."I'd say that from this procedure, the farming sector doesn't just emerge unscathed, but it also benefits from a treatment which supports its particularity. All the more so, considering we want to move ahead with the reconstruction of production after the conclusion of the program review, in which the rural sector must take a leading role," Apostolou was quoted as saying. "More than 95 pct [of farmers] will not pay a single euro," he added. Athens News Agency: News in English Directory - Previous Article - Next Article |
