  • [01] EU Commissioner Avramopoulos on scenarios regarding Greece exiting the Schengen area

"The Schengen Treaty is founded on the principles of solidarity and responsibility. Any effort to cast this into doubt, casts these principles into doubt and this does not benefit anyone nor does it offer any solutions," EU Commissioner for Migration and Internal Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos said in a statement to "Kathimerini" newspaper.

The Commissioner noted that "the refugee crisis we are facing is unprecedented. And this does not only regard the host countries or the destination countries, but all Europe," adding that "despite the strong pressure on Greece, it is imperative to complete this effort that will give tangible results."

According to Avramopoulos, "the immediate and full implementation of the agreed measures, both in Greece and in all the member states, will strengthen the security of maritime boundaries and will restore control in the northern border, where non-unidentified migrants try to continue their trip to the north."

[02] New Democracy leadership elections to be held on Dec. 20

New Democracy electoral committee (KEFE) decided to hold the elections for the party leadership on December 20. In case of repeated elections, these will be held on January 10, 2016.

[03] Record number of Greek startups to take part in Equity Investment Forum on Dec. 7-8

More than 300 business plans from Greek startups, developing small and medium-sized companies from a very wide spectrum of business activity have been submitted at the Equity Investment Forum, which will be held on Dec. 7-8 in Athens, the event's organizers said on Tuesday.

Enterprise Greece, the Athens Stock Exchange, Hellenic Venture Capital & Private Equity association (HVCA), state-sponsored capital fund TANEO and PRAXI Network said this number is three times higher than the one in the previous conference.

Organizers said that more than 1,000 delegates have registered for the event, double the number of participants from last year, while online applications will remain open until Dec. 4 through the webpage www.eiforum.gr.

This year's guest country is Israel and representatives of the country's investment community will be taking part in the two-day forum, transferring know-how, experiences, and proposals for creating a corresponding coherent and comprehensive innovation ecosystem in Greece.

[04] Deputy For. Minister Amanatidis to represent Greece at OSCE meeting

Deputy Foreign Minister Yiannis Amanatidis will represent Greece at the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which will be held in Belgrade on Thursday and Friday.

The issues of terrorism and refugees will dominate the summit.

In statements to ANA-MPA, Amanatidis noted that OSCE is the appropriate institution to handle such problems, but also to find a solution to crises such as the recent in Russian-Turkish relations.
