[01] Amendment tabled to allow state to 'top up' repayments of vulnerable
debtors
Economy Minister Giorgos Stathakis on Thursday tabled an amendment
to an omnibus bill tabled in Parliament that will allow the state to
contribute to the monthly payments made by low-income, vulnerable debtors
that are in arrears on their mortgages, at least until the end of 2016.
The amendment allows the state to partially cover the difference in the
sum owed by debtors meeting the legal requirements and the amount set
by debt settlement schemes. In this case, the debt settlement scheme is
considered to be serviced and any unpaid amount is added to the capital
in the debt settlement scheme.
The same modifications specify that implementation of the draft law
measures concerning non-performing loans starts on Jan. 1, 2016 and
does not include outstanding cases and applications submitted up to
Dec. 12, 2015.
