[01] Farmers' rally in Syntagma ends after clash with police
One man was detained during clashes in central Athens on Wednesday during
a rally by protesting farmers in Syntagma square, in front of Parliament.
The incidents in Syntagma started after farmers attempted to enter
Parliament's grounds and were pushed back by riot police using tear gas.
Farmers said they would request a meeting with Prime Minister Alexis
Tsipras on Thursday, in order to present him with a resolution outlining
their positions against tax hikes on the farm sector.
Agricultural Development Minister Vangelis Apostolou had earlier sought
a meeting with the farmers, which had been planned before the clashes
broke out, but farmers refused to meet him in protest against police
violence and left.
