  • [01] PM Tsipras tells Palestinian FM party will propose recognition of Palestine

ANA - MPA -- Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told Foreign Minister of the Palestinian Authority Riyad al-Maliki in a meeting on Monday that he will support an initiative by his party SYRIZA to propose the recognition of the Palestinian state by the Greek Parliament, sources said.

The proposal will be submitted by SYRIZA's parliamentary group to the House, the sources said, without specifying a date.  The same sources said that the prime minister has an open invitation to visit Palestine and that the President of the Palestine Authority Mahmoud Abbas, may visit Greece, possibly after an agreement has been achieved with Greece's lenders.

Tsipras also expressed his support to the Palestinian people and stressed the need to restart negotiations with Israel.

[02] Obama: We support Greece's return to growth

BERLIN (ANA-MPA/F. Karaviti) - U.S. President Barack Obama said on Monday he supports all efforts that will allow Greece to implement the necessary reforms and return to growth. "We supports the efforts to find a path that will allow Greece to implement the necessary reforms and return to growth, in a strong, stable and developing Eurozone," the U.S. leader told journalists after the end of the G7 summit meeting in Germany.

"If both sides show sufficient flexibility, we can get this problem resolved....but it will need tough decisions from all involved," he said and added that it will be important if the international community and the international economic institutes recognise the incredible challenges facing Greece.

Commenting on the ongoing negotiations, Obama said the EU and other institutions feel "a sense of urgency" towards finding a path to resolve the situation and said that what is needed is for Greece to get serious about implementing reforms. "Not only to satisfy creditors, but also to create a platform where the Greek economy can start growing again and prospering." And added: "The Greeks are going to have to follow through and take some tough political choices that are going to be good in the long term."

[03] Moderate earthquake rattles central Greece

The quake of 5.3 magnitude occurred at 04.09, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said. Its epicenter was 26 km northwestern of Chalkida, on Evia island.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

[04] International creditors receive new Greek reform proposal

ANA/MPA---Greece has submitted a new reform proposal to its international creditors with the aim of reaching an agreement that will unlock funding, according to a European source.
