  • [01] President Pavlopoulos to meet with FinMin Varoufakis on Tuesday

ANA/MPA---President of Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos will receive Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis on Tuesday at 12:00 at the presidential mansion.

The Finance Minister will brief the president on issues of his responsibility.

[02] Defence Minister Kammenos: We will not step back on the German war reparations

ANA/MPA---The government will not step back on the issue of German war reparations, underlined Defence Minister Panos Kammenos on Tuesday speaking to private TV Mega.

"We will not back down and we will set the issue with conditions that will correspond to reality," he said and estimated that Ms Merkel left a 'window' open for the issue saying that we will consider it within the framework of the committee set up by the German parliament. He also noted that the issue (of war reparations) is primary moral but clarified that it is totally different for the occupation loan.

He said he considered prime minister's intervention on Siemens issue very important because as he said "it takes two for corruption".

Kammenos preannounced that the Defence Ministry will bring a series of draft laws to the parliament in the coming period that will provide for a series of changes in the armed forces.

[03] Government's position on single and state PPC is non negotiable, Energy Minister says

ANA/MPA---The government's position on a single and state Public Power Corp. (PPC) is non negotiable, Productive Reconstruction, Environment and Energy Minister Panagiotis Lafazanis said during his visit at the PPC power plant in Kardia, at the northern Greek region of Kozani.

A private PPC would be a disaster for the economy, he said. For this reason, he added, the current government has put aside the previous government's plans to break up the company and create the so-called small PPC .

Lafazanis noted that the Independent Power Transmission Operator (ADMIE) will not be privatized but will remain public.

Regarding the PPC tariffs, he said there are high – "energy in our country is very expensive" – and that the first bill to be tabled in Parliament will include an amendment abolishing the increases that the energy regulator RAE had recommended.

He also noted that the government would soon take more initiatives to reduce PPC tariffs.

The minister said that the country is in a crisis and that the government's intention is to create growth, employment and take the country out of the crisis.

The government is trying to open positive ways for the people and to gradually restore the citizens' income to pre-memorandum levels. This is a titanic effort and we will carry it out despite any pressure, threats, blackmails and difficulties, the minister stressed.

Energy is a main pillar of growth and PPC is the locomotive of energy; for this reason the government is determined to support the uniform and state-run PPC, he said.

Apart from Kardia power plant, Lafazanis will also visit the electricity production unit in Ptolemaida as well as one of the mines in the area, while in the afternoon he will meet local organization representatives in Kozani.

Lafazanis on Tuesday will attend the parade on the March 25th national holiday.
