  • [01] Arrears settlement to bring about 1.5 bln euro revenues, Stratoulis says

The settlement of arrears to the State in 100 installments will bring revenues of 1.5 billion euros to the state coffers this year, Alternate Social Insurance Minister Dimitris Stratoulis on Friday said in an interview with ANA-MPA.

"It is the most improved settlement ever implemented in the country regarding the arrears of the small and medium sized enterprises and self-employed. This settlement aims at boosting the finances of the social security funds," Stratoulis said.

According to the Finance ministry's estimates, the settlement will bring revenues of 1.46 -1.5 billion euros this year. A second target is that this settlement will give a breather to the small, very small and medium sized companies and the self-employed. This way we will change the recession climate and help the economy restart.

Asked on a German newspaper's report that the Greek government is looting the coffers of the social security funds, Stratoulis underlined: "Our government has not touched the social security reserves and it has pledged to start gradually restoring their looting."

The full interview is available for subscribers at ANA-MPA website.
