  • [01] Labour ministry to set up permanent mechanism to diagnose labour market's needs

The Labour ministry in the coming days will set up a permanent mechanism to detect the needs of the labour market.

According to a decision signed by minister Yiannis Vroutsis, the mechanism will be linked to the "Ergani" system, which records the number of employees in the private sector, the job positions and the working relations so that the ministry can have a clear picture of the labour market's needs in all economic sectors and regions of the country.

According to ministry officials, the new system will help overcome any difficulties that may arise in planning actions to combat unemployment. Moreover, the officials said, the implemented policies will become more efficient as they will correspond to the needs of the real economy and the unemployed.

"It is the first time in Greece that we set up a permanent and comprehensive mechanism to diagnose the needs of the labour market, through which we will constantly record the real needs of the enterprises in qualifications and skills," Labour Minister Yiannis Vroutsis told ANA-MPA.

"Thus, employment and training interventions will be no longer planned "in the dark" or in "a relative manner" as it was the case in the past but with targeted and effective matching of the labour supply and demand," he said.

"This is essentially a crucial tool in our fight to combat unemployment," he added.
