  • [01] Greek economic overhauls are delivering results, says Bloomberg's report

ANA/MPA---Overhauls in Greek markets, the economy and public administration are delivering results, Bloomberg news agency said, citing the European Commission's Task Force quarterly report on Greece.

"Greek public administration has continued significant rationalization of the workforce," according to the report published on Wednesday in Brussels.

In the latest review of the Greek economic adjustment programme, an IMF official noted that "adjustment fatigue has set in. This is making it difficult to move forward boldly and swiftly with needed reforms."

"Despite so much talk to the contrary, the truth is that Greece has implemented lots of reforms," said Panos Tsakloglou, a professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business who was Greece's representative in the working group of senior euro-area finance ministry officials until June. "The starting point was very low, and the full benefit of these reforms will only be seen once the economy starts picking up."

As it struggles with 27 percent unemployment, the country has topped the league table for reform responsiveness among developed nations in the annual rankings of the OECD. Greece has further reduced cost of starting up a business and taxes on property transfers, the Commission stressed.

A Finance Ministry spokesman said that the government would submit a bill which includes measures aimed at satisfying troika conditions for the disbursement of a delayed bailout sub-tranche later this week or next week.

[02] PPC to invest 180 mln euros on windpower projects‏

ANA/MPA---Public Power Corporation (PPC) on Wednesday announced plans to invest 180 million euros on new windpower park projects, with a total capacity of 150 MW. The plan, approved by PPC's board, will be funded with bank loans (60 pct) and own capital (40 pct) by PPC Renewables (to be covered by a capital injection by the parent company).

The board also approved an investment to build a windpower park in Crete, with a capacity of 7.5 MW, worth 9.0 million euros, with the option to add another windpower turbine with a capacity of 3.3 MW, worth 3.96 million euros.

PPC said it will soon launch an international tender for the project.
