[01] Seven persons remanded in custody over major drug haul
ANA/MPA--Examining magistrate and prosecutor decided early Friday that
seven persons allegedly involved in the unprecedented bust of 2.12 tonnes
of heroin transferred to Greece should be held in custody pending trial.
These were the remaining five crew members of the small tanker "NOOR ONE"
- four sailors and the 42-year-old captain - all of them Indian nationals,
a 41-year-old Turkish national with Belgian passport and a 53-year-old
Greek woman, allegedly manager of the tanker.
All of them face charges of setting up a criminal organisation as well
as drug possession and trafficking. Some of them also face charges of
fuel smuggling due to 18 tonnes of diesel found in the tanker which
could not be justified by any transaction documents.
Sixteen people have been remanded in custody so far in relation with
the huge heroin bust.
