[01] President Papoulias in Normandy for 70th anniversary of D-Day
President of Republic Karolos Papoulias on Thursday arrived in Caen,
Normandy to take part in the celebations for the 70th anniversary of
the WWII Allied invasion of Normandy in June 1944 (D-Day).
Papoulias and his wife on Friday at 12.30 will attend a reception
at the Benouville castle. Benouville is a small coastal city in the
region of Calvados where in June 1944 the British 6th Airborne Division
successfully completed the operation Pegasus Bridge. After the reception
the 17 invited country leaders will participate in a 'family photo'
with French President Francois Hollande. An official dinner will follow.
At 15.30 the invited leaders will visit the Ouisterham beach (Sword Beach)
where the official commemoration ceremony will take place.
