[01] Southern coast of Crete jolted twice on Sunday; no injuries or
damages
ANA-MPA -- The southern coast of the Aegean island of Crete experienced
two earthquakes on Sunday, one in the early morning hours and another
mid-day.
According to the Athens Planetarium's Geodynamics Institute, an earthquake
measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale occurred under the sea bed off the
southern city of Ierapetra at 01:08. The epicenter was 5 km southeast
of Ierapetra, and no damages were reported on land.
Another earthquake struck at 15:05 in the Tymbaki area, southwest of
Ierapetra, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale (earlier reports by the
Institute assessed it at 4.8). The epicenter was under the seabed off
Tymbaki, which lies about 45 km southwest of Crete's largest city,
Iraklio (Heraklio), where it was strongly felt. No injuries or damages
were reported.
