    AMNA--The Greek government is very close to a deal with the troika of the country's international lenders (EC-ECB-IMF), Finance minister Yannis Stournaras said after the end of a meeting late Wednesday evening between Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, himself and the heads of the troika.

    Stournaras said the troika officials are to leave Athens but would come back in a few days to continue talks.

    The finance minister added that significant progress has been achieved on all issues on the negotiating table, with only some technical matters still being open. amna

    Replying to a question as to whether latest development would affect the disbursement of the bailout loan's March 2.8-billion-euro tranche, Stournaras appeared certain that Greece "will get the money," adding that discussions will continue to achieve a final agreement.

    [02] PM in Brussels Thursday for EU, EPP Summits

    AMNA--Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras arrives in Brussels on Thursday to attend an EU Summit and a summit of the European People's Party (EPP) grouping of the Europarliament.

    EU heads of state and government will on Thursday evening open a two-day Summit in a bid to balance the continuation of the austerity policies designed to cut debts with measures to boost growth and generate jobs.

    Earlier, ahead of the European Council, EU and non-EU heads of state and government and opposition leaders of the EPP will be joined by European Council president Herman van Rompuy and European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso for and enlarged EPP summit.amna

    The EU summit will be followed on Friday afternoon by an extraordinary meeting of the Eurogroup, which will discuss "progress towards a financial assistance and economic adjustment programme for Cyprus", according to a statement by the new Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem

    Samaras is due to return to Athens on Friday night.
