[01] Farmers remain at roadblocks
AMNA--Farmers of northern Greece on Wednesday continued their roadblocks,
and will participate in rallies in several northern cities as part
of the nationwide general strike called by the two major labour union
umbrellas GSEE and ADEDY for Wednesday.
Representatives from the 34 roadblocks set up throughout Greece will meet
at the Nikaia intersection on the old Athens-Thessaloniki national road to
decide what to do in the future. The roadblocks were set up a month ago.
[02] Piraeus Bank says general insurance production up 15.3 pct in 2012
AMNA--Piraeus Bank said premium production by its general insurance
company was up 15.3 pct in 2012, a sharp contrast with a 11 pct drop
in the insurance market in Greece last year, Triantafyllos Lysimahou,
the bank's insurance activities advisor said on Wednesday.
Addressing a bank assurance summit in Athens, organized by Piraeus
Bank in cooperation with Ergo and ING, Lysimahou said that premium
production in life insurance was down 4.5 pct. He noted that the "group
was strengthening" and added improvements in both procedures and products
were forthcoming.amna
Sotiris Syrkamezis, retail banking director general, addressing the summit
said, "We are at the begining of a new era for Piraeus Bank as the bank
constantly grows", while Theodore Kokkalos, CEO for Greece and Turkey
in Ergo said that the two companies completed three years of successful
cooperation. Manos Hirakis, ING managing director of marketing, told
the summit that an 11-year cooperation with Piraeus Bank was based on
solid values focusing on the customer.
