[01] ND party leads SYRIZA by 1 pct, poll showsAMNA--The ruling New Democracy (ND) party leads the main opposition Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) by 1 percent, according to a poll carried out by the Alco company for the "Newsit" website.According to the poll, ND garners 21.2 percent of respondents' preferences and following are SYRIZA with 20.2, Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avghi) 9.4, PASOK 7.2, Independent Greeks 5, Communist Party of Greece (KKE) 4.8 and Democratic Left 4, while 5.3 expressed support for other parties. Sports Minister on IOC proposal to abolish wrestling from 2020 Olympic GamesDeputy Minister of Sports Yannis Ioannidis, in a letter on Thursday to International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge regarding the International Olympic Executive Board's proposal to abolish the Wrestling event from the 2020 Olympic Games programme, expressed the Greek people's feelings on and respect for the history of wrestling, requesting the continuation of the wrestling event in the Olympic Games.In his letter, Ioannidis stressed that wrestling is closely connected with Greece and the Ancient Olympic Games, underlining that the history, the tradition and the social consensus that characterize it should not be sacrificed on the altar of ratings, the media and commercialization. [03] Parliament vote opens way to lease of state-owned isletsAMNA--Parliament on Thursday passed an amendment allowing the lease of Greece's state-owned islets with 166 votes in favour, in a roll-call vote requested by main opposition Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA-EKM). Under the amendment, such islets cannot be sold but only leased, provided the lease is approved by the national defence ministry, the citizen protection and public order ministry and the general staffs of all three branches of the Armed Forces.Of the 252 MPs that cast their vote, there were 84 'no' votes from main opposition SYRIZA MPs, Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi) and Communist Party of Greece (KKE) MPs, and five of the nine Independent Greeks party MPs that took part in the vote. [05] Greek unemployment at new record-high of 27% in Nov.AMNA--Greece's unemployment rate rose to a new all-time record of 27 pct of the workforce in November, with the number of unemployed people totaling 1,350,181, the Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Thursday.The statistics service, in a report, said that unemployment among young people, aged 15-24, surpassed 60 pct (61.7 pct) for an increase of 11.6 points in 12 months, while the Attica region was unemployment 'champion' among the country's regions, with an unemployment rate of 29 pct.amna The unemployment rate was 20.8 pct in November 2011 and 26.6 pct in October 2012. The number of employed people totaled 3,642,102 in November, down 265,584 compared with November 2011 (a decline of 6.8 pct), or down by 0.8 pct compared with October 2012. Unemployment was higher among women (31.1 pct compared with a 24 pct among men).
