[01] Olympiakos wins Euroleague basketball championship
AMNA--Olympiakos Piraeus won the Euroleague basketball championship
on Sunday, beating favorites CSKA Moscow with 62-61 in the finals at
Sinan Erdem Arena in Istanbul.
Olympiakos, which was trailing CSKA 53-34 midway through the third
quarter, staged a spectacular comeback in the fourth quarter to win
its second title in Europe's premier club basketball competition,
the first being in 1997.amna
Power forward Costas Papanicolaou was Olympiakos' top scorer with 18
points, while Vassilis Spanoulis, named the tournament's Most Valuable
Player, scored 15 points and George Printezis scored 12 points.
