    AMNA--New Democracy president Antonis Samaras left open the possibility of forming a new coalition government, speaking on Friday in Parliament's senate chamber to the party's newly elected MPs.

    He added, however, "that the political climate does not help in the creation of a viable government, we are struggling for this this, and hope still exists."amna

    Samaras warned of a danger of a rudderless state, pointing to the continued difficulty in achieving cooperation amongst political parties. amna

    Samaras' ND picked up just below 19 percent in the Sunday, May 6 election, coming in first, but with a disappointing showing.

    [02] Greek tanker pirated in Arabian Sea

    AMNA--The Greek-owned oil tanker "M/T Smyrni" was hijacked by pirates in the Arabian Sea as it was sailing some 300 nautical miles east of Oman late Thursday, and was reported to be heading towards Somalia.

    The Liberian-flagged tanker had set off from Turkey carrying 135,000 metric tons of crude oil from Turkey, according to Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd., the vessel's managers.amna

    "At approximately 1115 UTC on 10 May, 2012, an oil tanker managed by Dynacom Tankers Management Ltd. was reported hijacked while it was transiting the Arabian Sea.

    The Liberian-flagged Tanker, the M/T SMYRNI, is carrying a cargo of 135000 MT of crude oil.amna

    No communications have been received from the ship since the ship was boarded.amna

    Dynacom Tanker Management's top priorities are the safe return of the ship and crew and the integrity of the cargo.amna

    All relevant authorities have been notified," the managers said.

    [04] Athens Stock Exchange opening: Decline

    AMNA--Equity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Friday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 1.40 percent, standing at 631.95 points at 11:00 am, and turnover at 3.835 million euros.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 1.38 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.61 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.49 percent.amna

    Individual sector indices were moving downward, with the only gains in Telecoms, up 0.94 percent.

    The biggest losses were in Travel and Recreation, down 2.75 percent; Financial Services, down 2.81 percent and Banks, down 2.57 percent.

    Of the stocks traded, 7 were up, 30 were down, and 10 were unchanged.
