    AMNA / Some of the best break-dance groups from the Balkans will converge in Thessaloniki on Saturday for the international "Battle of the Best" Break-dance Festival.

    Break dancers from Greece, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania, Turkey and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (fYRoM) will gather at the Mylos events center for the annual Festival, supported by the Municipality of Thessaloniki, which is currently in its seventh year and posting an increasing number of visitors each year, which exceeded 1,000 in 2010.

    Apart from a break-dance competition, the programme includes hip hop concerts, break-dance seminars and a variety of parallel events, which aim to promote the Festival's messages of "No to Drugs-Yes to Sport" and "No to Racial and Social Discrimination".

    Visitors will be able to learn about the history and evolution of break-dance, meet other youths from the Balkan countries and exchange views and ideas, as well as receiving free introductory lessons in break dancing from the region's best.

    Another related event, the decade-old annual Thessaloniki Hip Hop Festival, will also take place next Friday and Saturday (December 16-17). www.amna.gr

    The aim of the Festival is to present the four elements of the Hip Hop Culture -- break-dance, graffiti, mc-ing and dj-ing -- to the young and the young at heart, and to introduce spectators to the latest trends in urban culture throughout the world.

    The Hip Hop culture, which marks its 40th anniversary this year, has evolved into a 'nursery' producing young talented artists. AMNA

    [02] Recession continues in Q3, GDP down 6.9%

    AMNA / The statistics service, ELSTAT, in a report, said that available non-seasonally adjusted data indicate that in the 3rd quarter of 2011, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at constant prices of year the 2005 decreased by 5.0% in comparison with the 3rd quarter of 2010, reaching 6.9 percent at the end of the 9-month period (-8.3pct in Q1, -7.4pct in Q2 and -5.0pct in Q3).

    Total final consumption expenditure recorded a decrease of 5.1% in comparison with the 3rd quarter of 2010.

    Gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) decreased by 15.2% in comparison with the 3rd quarter of 2010.

    External trade deficit decreased significantly by 71.4%, contributing positively to the GDP percent change.

    Exports increased by 3.2% in comparison with the 3rd quarter of 2010 (Table 4). Exports of goods increased by 9.3% while exports of services decreased by 0.4%.

    Imports decreased by 4.3% in comparison with the 3rd quarter of 2010. Imports of goods decreased by 2.3% and imports of services by 11.4%.
