[01] Interest rates rise on ECB hikeSeveral Greek high-street banks announced higher interest rates on loans and deposits following a 0.25 percent hike in the European Central Bank's main lending rate.Banks that announced changes in interest rates for their products included Eurobank, Piraeus Bank, Marfin Egnatia Bank, Millenium Bank, Hellenic Bank and FBBank. The hikes announced ranged from a minimum 0.25 percent, keeping step with the ECB increase, but some deposit interest rates were raised by up to 0.35 percent and for loans by up to 0.5 percent. Many of the changes concerned loans or accounts using the ECB rate as a reference and the majority will go into effect from this Friday, while some changes will be implemented over the course of May and early June. Classes of loans affected include mortgages, consumer loans, credit cards but also loans to businesses. More details on the subscriber's page of ANA-MPA | Subscription request form [02] Dockworkers strike on May 1People planning to travel by sea this Sunday, on the May 1 Labour Day holiday, are expected to face problems due to a 24-hour strike and work stoppage announced by dockworkers on that day.Unions have decided to participate with a 24-hour strike from 12 midnight on Saturday until 12 midnight on Sunday. The dockworkers are expected to hold an initial strike gathering in Karaiskaki Square in Piraeus at 5:30 in the morning. More details on the subscriber's page of ANA-MPA | Subscription request form [03] ASE opening: DeclineEquity prices were declining in slow trade at the opening of trade on Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 0.43 percent, standing at 1,419.39 points at 11:30 am, and turnover at 9.998 million euros.The biggest gains for individual sector indices were in Health, up 3.56 percent; Chemicals, up 1.26 percent; and Construction, up 1.08 percent. The biggest losses were in Commerce, down 1.73 percent and Financial Services, down 0.50 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.41 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.25 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.11 percent. Of the stocks traded, 38 were up, 29 were down, and 13 were unchanged.
