[01] PASOK National Council, PES summit on FridayPrime minister George Papandreou will chair the 11th congress of his ruling PASOK party's National Council on Friday, at which greetings will be addressed by leader of the European Parliament's Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) parliamentary group Martin Schulz and president of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and former Danish prime minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, who are in Athens for a two-day summit of the PES leaders that opens here on Friday.The National Council will begin with an address by Council secretary Michalis Karhimakis, followed by MP Vasso Papandreou on the euro-bond issues. Papandreou and Rasmussen will hold a joint press conference at 5:00 p.m. at the Zappion Press Center after the conclusion of the National Council, while they will have a working dinner in the evening. More details on the subscriber's page of ANA-MPA | Subscription request form [02] ASE opening: RiseEquity prices were declining at the opening of trade on Thursday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 1.07 percent, standing at 1,586.68 points at 11:15 am, and turnover at 16.897 million euros.Individual sector indices were moving upward nearly across the board, with the biggest gains in Health, up 3.47 percent; Banks, up 2.60 percent; and Public Industrial Products, up 2.02 percent. The only losses were in Chemicals, down 3.05 percent; and Oil & Gas, down 0.06 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 1.41 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.70 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.68 percent. Of the stocks traded, 53 were up, 13 were down, and 12 were unchanged.
