    Stocks ended flat at the Athens Stock Exchange on Wednesday as the market smoothly absorbed a wave of liquidations after Tuesday�s sharp advance of prices. The composite index rose 0.03 pct to end at 1,664.06 points, with turnover remaining an improved 221.673 million euros. Eurobank (3.38 pct), Alpha Bank (2.95 pct) and PPC (2.77 pct) were top gainers among blue chip stocks, while Piraeus Bank (3.98 pct), Ellaktor (3.71 pct) and Hellenic Postbank (3.24 pct) were major losers.

    The Big Cap index rose 0.09 pct, the Mid Cap index ended 1.37 pct down and the Small Cap index eased 0.68 pct. Utilities (1.99 pct) and Telecommunications (1.76 pct) scored the biggest percentage gains of the day, while Chemicals (3.15 pct) and Health (2.93 pct) suffered losses.

    Broadly, decliners led advancers by 106 to 77 with another 45 issues unchanged. Altec (14.29 pct), Eurobrokers (9.84 pct) and Proton Bank (9.41 pct) were top gainers, while Tzirakian (8.70 pct), Progressive (8.70 pct) and Hatzioannou (8.33 pct) were top losers.
