The Acropolis reopened to the public at noon on Friday, after being barricaded for 2 1/2 days by protesting culture ministry employees.

Entrance to the country's most famous archaelogical site was free to the public after it reopened.

The Acropolis archaeological site in Athens remained closed for a third consecutive day on Friday by protesting culture ministry contract employees demanding tenure and 22 months in outstanding back pay, while a strong police contingent also remained in place.

After scuffles erupted, riot police (MAT) used teargas on Thursday to disperse the protestors after scuffles erupted, who have chain-locked the entrance to Greece's most famous archaeological site, in an operation to reopen the site after a lawsuit filed by the local police precinct chief with an Athens prosecutor, who gave the go-ahead for the operation.

Tension increased on Friday morning when police allowed a couple of tourists to enter the site, eliciting strong protests from the demonstrators.
