[01] Major wildfire erupts near Karystos(ANA-MPA) -- A major wildfire was blazing near the harbour town of Karystos, in the extreme south of the large island of Evia, on Sunday, with mostly crops and agricultural sheds burned in the process.The wildfire was aided by gusting winds in the region of up to 10 on the beaufort scale, as southern Evia is one of the most wind-swept areas in the Aegean. Significant fire brigade forces along with local volunteers were in the region. The incident marks the second time this summer that a major wildfire has erupted in the Karystos region, with the one on Sunday mostly affecting areas to the east and northeast of the town. Meanwhile, a trio of wildfires on Crete was mostly under control on Sunday, one outside the city of Ierapetra and two others in Rethymno prefecture. Caption: ANA-MPA photo / G. Lykouropoulos [02] Stocks sharply down on Fri.Stocks fell below the 1,600-level at the Athens Stock Exchange on Friday, continuing a bearish mood in the local bourse, with the composite index of the market down 3.53 percent to end at 1,589.74 points. Turnover was a lowish 81.41million euros.The Big Cap index lost 3.72 pct, the Mid Cap index ended 2.49 pct higher and the Small Cap index decreased by 1.93 pct. Insurances (3.65 pct) and Commerce (0.43 pct) were the only indexes up on the day, while Petroleum products (4.43 pct) Constructions (4.13 pct) and Banks (3.96) recorded the biggest losses. Broadly, advancers trailed decliners by 32 to 141 with another 37 issues unchanged. [03] Airport traffic back to normal(ANA-MPA) -- Flights to and from Athens' Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport as well as to other airports around Greece were normalised by early in the afternoon on Sunday following a breakdown hours in earlier in the communications system connecting flight control towers in the country.A glitch was repaired before 10:30 a.m. local time in the main communications system.
