  • [01] World Oceans Day celebrated on Tuesday

World Oceans Day is celebrated throughout the world on Tuesday, June 8, with the theme this year being "Oceans of Life".

June 8 was officially declared as the annual World Oceans Day by the UN General Assembly in December 2008. The concept was originally proposed by Canada on June 8, 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and was unofficially celebrated every year as World Ocean Day since then until the UN designation.

The 2010 theme "Oceans of Life" focuses on the oceans' great diversity of life and how everyone can help in its conservation.
