[01] ASE ends below 2,000 level
Stocks remained under pressure for the second consecutive session at
the Athens Stock Exchange, pushing the composite index of the market
below the 2,000 level. News that Goldman Sachs cut target prices for
major Greek banks and a new widening of the Greek bond spread hit
sentiment in the market. The composite index fell 1.40 pct to end at
1,987.36 points, with turnover at 187.181 million euros.
The FTSE 20 index fell 2.05 pct, the FTSE 40 index eased 0.42 pct and
the FTSE 80 index dropped 1.58 pct. The Utilities (5.32 pct) and
Insurance (1.54 pct) sectors scored gains, while Financial Services
(3.44 pct) and Banks (3.35 pct) suffered the heaviest percentage losses
of the day.
Hatzikraniotis (9.09 pct), Medicon (7.14 pct), PPC (6.91 pct) and Alco
(5.41 pct) were top gainers, while Ilida (19.85 pct), Edrasis (14.29
pct), Compucon (11.11 pct) and Altec (10.53 pct) were top losers.
Broadly, decliners led advancers by 138 to 50 with another 51 issues
unchanged.
