[02] Hellenic Petroleum profits upHellenic Petroleum Group on Thursday said its net profits totaled 175 million euros in 2009, sharply up from 12 million euros in 2008, although comparable net profits fell to 150 million euros from 204 million euros, over the same period respectively.The group's board will seek shareholders' approval to a plan to pay a 0.30 euros per share dividend to shareholders (Hellenic Petroleum has already paid a pre-dividend of 0.15 euros per share). A move to acquire BP's petrol station network in Greece (the deal was completed in December) affected the Group's results. Commenting on the results, G. Kostopoulos, Hellenic Petroleum's chief executive said both the international and domestic environment remained difficult, while refinery markets were affected by the crisis in the third and fourth quarters, with refinery margins falling to the lowest levels in a decade, with demand for oil products declined. "However, operating profitability was satisfactory," he noted. [03] ASE opening: RiseEquity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Friday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.29 percent, standing at 1,877.94 points at 11:00 a.m., and turnover at 14.352 million euros.Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains in Banks, up 0.56 percent; and Technology, up 0.89 percent. The biggest losses were in Food and Beverages down 1.66 percent; and Travel and Recreation, down 1.55 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.57 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.42 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.23 percent. Of the stocks moved, 26 were up, 30 were down, and 10 were unchanged.
