[01] Port dockers extend strike
Piraeus port dockers decided on Wednesday to hold a new 48-hour strike
beginning at midnight Wednesday and end at midnight on Friday.
The dockers, who demand that China's Cosco Pacific should not take over
management of the country's largest port, also decided to abstain from
overtime work this weekend and will meet again on Friday to decide on
whether or not they will further escalate their strikes.
Earlier in the day, government spokesman Giorgos Petalotis stated that
a new strike called by unions at the port of Piraeus is an issue that
bedevils society over recent days.
Responding to press questions, Petalotis stated that the government was
called on to deal with the strike action as soon as it was launched on
Oct. 1 by setting criteria and standards, adding that the government
believes that a feasible solution can be achieved only through
dialogue.
