  • [01] PM Papandreou in Thessaloniki on Monday

Prime Minister George Papandreou will be in Thessaloniki on Monday, where he will attend a doxology and other events marking the feast of the city's patron Saint Demetrius. Papandreou stressed that Greece can become a model country and state, addressing his ruling PASOK's National Council and underlined that achieving this required the forging of social alliances and the participation of the citizens.

The prime minister announced, during the meeting on Friday, that the government will soon launch an official process of dialogue and consultation with the "social partners" (employer groups and trade unions) in a bid to establish a broad consensus and alliance regarding the government's "road map" for reforms.

Specifically, Bakoyannis was preferred by 35.8 percent of respondents, followed by Samaras with 34.0 percent, former health minister Dimitris Avramopoulos with 16.8 percent, and Thessaloniki Prefect Panagiotis Psomiadis with 9.8 percent.
