[01] Wildfires under control, vigilance continuesNo active wildfire fronts were reported around the country on Tuesday, with the weekend's major blazes in northeast Attica, on Mt. Kitheronas and Porto Germeno as well as east of Karystos under control or extinguished. Fire Brigade forces remained at the scenes to prevent any rekindling of the wildfires.In terms of fire-fighting aircraft, one water-dropping helicopter patrolled over Kitheronas, two fire-fighting aircraft and two helicopters over Karystos and two aircraft over NE Attica. The three Italian and three French aircraft together with a helicopter from Cyprus and Turkey are on alert and remain in Greece but are not patrolling. Moreover, environment, public works and town planning ministry engineers on Tuesday began surveying fire-stricken areas of northeastern Attica to record damages. ANA-MPA/ORESTIS PANAGIOTOU [02] Olympic Air progressMarfin Investment Group (MIG) on Monday categorically denied as inaquerate and misleading a press report alleging that the group was finding difficulties in hiring the necessary number of pilots needed for the operation of Olympic Air, scheduled for October 1, 2009.In a statement, MIG said the project to creating a new Olympic was progressing satisfactorily and according to the initial business plan. MIG said it has already successfully activated Olympic Handling, offering ground services, and was intensively preparing the operation of Olympic Engineering, offering aicraft maintenance services. [03] ASE opening: DeclineEquity prices were dropping at the opening of trade on Tuesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 1.04 percent, standing at 2,457.44 points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 10.5 million euros.Individual sector indices were moving mostly downward, with the biggest losses in Telecoms, down 1.89 percent; Health, down 1.87 percent; and Raw Materials, down 1.35 percent. The biggest gains were in Insurance, up 5.23 percent; Food and Beverages, up 0.67 percent; and Commerce, up 0.18 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.89 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.84 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.38 percent.
