  • [01] Foreign nationals arrested on antiquities charges

    Two Bulgarian citizens were arrested by security police in Nafplion on Monday night after various ancient artifacts were found in their possession.

    The artifacts, considered of significant archaeological value dating back to the Roman and Byzantine eras, were confiscated by the police, while the two detainees were due to be taken before a public prosecutor on Tuesday.

    Nafplion security police are conducting a preliminary investigation.

    Athens Stock Exchange opening: Rise

    Equity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Tuesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.80 percent, standing at 2,358.28 points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 13.1 million euros.

    Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains inFood & Beverage, up 1.57 percent; Mass Media, up 1.15 percent; and Personal & Household Goods, up 1.14 percent.

    The biggest losses were in Oil & Gas, down 0.85 percent; and Travel & Recreation, down 0.26 percent.

    The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.71 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.45 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 0.85 percent.

    Of the stocks moved, 72 were up, 20 were down, and 23 were unchanged.

    [03] Tsipras in Vytina on Wednesday

    Coalition of the Left, Movements and Ecology (SYN) leader Alexis Tsipras will visit the mountain town of Mainalos, in Vytina prefecture, near Tripolis, on Wednesday to discuss matters related to the conservation and management of the natural resources.

    During the visit, Tsipras will tour Mainalos before paying a call on the Vytina Forest Inspection Service, followed by a visit to the Vytina town hall, where he will meet with mayor Yiannis Sakellariou.
