[01] PASOK on presidential electionMain opposition PASOK spokesman George Papaconstantinou, referring to the presidential election by Parliament, reiterated that "the problem is political and not constitutional, PASOK is doing nothing more than what is being dictated by the Constitution".He also characterised "dead end" policy the government's attempt to pin the holding of early elections on PASOK. On the PM's terse response to PASOK leader George Papandreou, as regards the novel influenza issue, Papaconstantinou spoke of an 'improper manner", adding, however, that this was the first time the prime minister spoke about the novel influenza prevention measures. Papaconstantinou stressed that "the economy is going from bad to worse" while as regards the "real economy" he stated that its problems cannot not be solved with measures that lack continuity, accusing the government of having no plan when dealing with the problem of unemployment. [02] ASE opening : RiseEquity prices were rising at the opening of trade on Tuesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index up 0.86 percent, standing at 2,364.15 points at 10:45 a.m., and turnover at 12.3 million euros.Individual sector indices were moving mostly upward, with the biggest gains in Chemicals, up 1.99 percent; Technology, up 1.98 percent; Financial Services, up 1.86 percent, Mass Media, up 1.77 percent and Construction, up 1.63 percent. The only losses were in Public Utilities, down 0.29 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was up 0.98 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was up 0.81 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was up 1.14 percent.
