[01] Election rumours dismissed
Government spokesman Evangelos Antonaros on Monday repeated that the
government's current focus was to fulfill its pre-election pledges and
carry out its programme, stressing that it would not be sidetracked
from this goal.
"We have the Parliamentary majority and we will continue with this to
carry out the duties assigned to us by the Greek citizens and nothing
more. Everything else is empty speculation that has absolutely no
meaning. These scenarios concern only those that disseminate them, not
us," he underlined.
He was replying to questions that once again referred to the prospect
of early elections and to statements by members of the ruling party
demanding changes in the government after the European Parliament
elections.
Antonaros also denied that reports that government members had been
ordered to return to their posts by August 3, saying that this was
"pure fantasy".
