The US embassy in Athens on Tuesday afternoon hosted an event in honour of America's Armed Forces Day, with a handful of top Greek and US military officers decorated by the US ambassador in Athens.

US envoy Daniel Speckhard referred to the significant contribution of friends and allies to the US military's overseas deployments, including the Greek contingents serving in Afghanistan, in the Horn of Africa and in the Balkans, reiterating the theme of "united in strength."

During the ceremony, Hellenic Army Maj. Gen. (ret.) Emmanuel Xideris and Hellenic Navy Cmd. Ioannis Konstantinidis were bestowed US military awards for their achievements.

Additionally, US Navy Capt. Michael Morgan, the retiring defense attach? at the US embassy in Athens, along with US Army Col. Steve Boukedes, was honoured.

National Defence General Staff Chief Gen. Dimitrios Grapsas was the highest ranking Greek officer at the event.
