ROME (ANA-MPA) - Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Theodoros Kassimis met here on Monday with the Vatican's Deputy Foreign Minister Pietro Parolin, with talks focusing on the recognition of the Roman Catholic Church in Greece as a private entity, while talks also touched on the excellent relations between Greece and the Holy See as well as the importance of human-centred and Christian principles in European society.

Following his talks, Kassimis visited the 4th century Basilica di San Clemente, near Rome's Colosseum, where St. Cyril's relics are kept.

A service was officiated by Metropolitan of Italy Gennadios, on the occasion of the Eastern Orthodox feast day of Ss. Cyril and Methodius.

Greece's Ambassador to the Vatican, Miltiades Hiskakis, delivered an address, while Greek ambassador to Italy Haralambos Rokanas was also present at the mass.

In statements to reporters, Kassimis said procedures for the formal recognition of the Roman Catholic Church as a private law entity have been completed, adding that his talks at the Vatican "confirmed, once again, the support offered to Greece's national issues."
