  • [01] FinMin on bank liquidity plan

"The government is determined to fully implement the law on bank liquidity and, by extension, the economy, to the benefit of the small and middle sized enterprises, households and citizens", Economy and Finance Minister Yannis Papathanassiou said on Wednesday after the first meeting of the relevant Monitoring Council.

During the meeting, Bank of Greece (BoG) governor George Provopoulos briefed the participants on the progress in the program for liquidity of the economy and the relevant procedures were discussed.

BoG is monitoring the course of the plan and, according to the Ministry, the issue is not the immediate absorption of the entire liquidity package but to have liquidity throughout the entire duration of the financial crisis.

Papathanassiou added that the Monitoring Council, comprising the commissioners designated by the government at the banks that have joined the plan, will convene on a monthly basis.
