    The Friday edition of Athens' dailies at a glance

    The Israeli attacks on Gaza and the international community's efforts for a truce, Turkish provocations in the Aegean and the political and economic situation in Greece were the main front-page items in Friday's dailies.

    ADESMEFTOS TYPOS: "Ringing in the New Year with firecrackers and...molotov cocktails (spate of arson attacks against banks, shops and car dealerships in Athens and Thessaloniki (in the first hours of New Year) - The neo-Hellenic madness continues".

    APOGEVMATINI: "Suspicious acts by Turks - Immediate response with on-the-spot visit by Papoulias (President of the Republic) and the chiefs of the GEETHA (National Defence General Staff) and GES (Army General Staff)", referring to overflights by Turkish jetfighters over the islands of Agathonissi and Farmakonissi, with the President's expected arrival there for the Epiphany celebrations on January 6 interpreted as a 'clear message' to Turkey.
