[01] PM to meet with Slovak presidentPrime �inister Costas Karamanlis will meet on Wednesday with visiting Slovak president Ivan Gasparovic.Earlier, Karamanlis will chair a meeting of his ruling New Democracy (ND) party's parliamentary committee on the theme "International financial crisis: Challenge of responsibility for everyone". Presentations will be made by economy and finance minister George Alogoskoufis and development minister Christos Folias, while the meeting will end with an address by Karamanlis. Other speakers, who will outline the positions and proposals of their federations, include General Confederation of Workers of Greece (GSEE) president Yannis Panagopoulos, Civil Servants' Supreme Administrative Council (ADEDY) president Spyros Papaspyros, Federation of Greek Industries (SEB) president Dimitris Daskalopoulos, and Central Union of Chambers of Greece president George Kassimatis. Caption: ANA-MPA file photo of prime minister Costas Karamanlis [02] Farmers and tobacco producers block national highwaysProtesting farmers closed off on Wednesday the Rio - Antirrio national highway at the 79th km., and police were diverting traffic.Tobacco producers from Fthiotis prefecture closed off on Wednesday the Athens-Lamia national highway at the 210th kilometer, outside Lamia , forcing traffic to use bypasses while tobacco producers from Lokrida have blocked the same national highway at the 140th kilometer at the Atalanti interchange. Farmers are awaiting the outcome of negotiations in the EU on tobacco subsidies to prepare their next moves. The tobacco farmers are demanding continuation of EU subsidies for tobacco production, warning that if their demands aren't adopted by the EU, the losses will be immense, and losses to their family incomes will reach 83 percent by 2013 [03] ASE: Minor fluctuationsEquity prices were fluctuating on Wednesday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), with the basic share price index down 0.38 percent, standing at 1,917.90 points at 12:15 p.m., and turnover at 38.9 million euros.Individual sector indices were moving mostly downward, with the biggest losses in Health, down, 1,43 percent; Food & Beverage, down 1.13 percent; and Telecoms, down 1.08 percent. The biggest gains were in Insurance, up 4.76 percent; Raw Materials, up 0.80 percent; and Travel and Recreation, up 0.69 percent. The FTSE/ASE 20 index for blue chip and heavily traded stocks was down 0.02 percent, the FTSE/ASE MID 40 index was down 0.07 percent, and the FTSE/ASE-80 small cap index was down 0.82 percent. Of the stocks moved, 62 were up, 60 were down, and 44 were unchanged.
