  • [01] PM: meetings with Djukanovic, interior minister

Prime minister Costas Karamanlis met at noon on Monday with his visiting counterpart from Montenegro, Milos Djukanovic.

No statements were made after the meeting.

Earlier, the prime minister conferred with interior minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Pavlopoulos announced that the axes of the ministry's draft law on Local Government and Administrative Reform will be ready before the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) in September.

Pavlopoulos said that they discussed the progress in administrative reform and the relevant bill, which will be tabled in parliament in the coming days and concerns local government and municipal police matters.

He further said that cooperation would be sought with the Greek Police (ELAS) for more comprehensive drafting of the bill.

Also, the government was expecting a KEDKE (Central Union of Municipalities and Communities of Greece) study on administrative reform by the end of July.
