    Budget revenues grew by 5.8 percent in the first quarter of 2008, significantly slower compared with a 13.0-percent budget target for the year, while budget spending grew 0.7 pct from a budget target of 8.1 pct, official figures showed on Monday.

    A report by the finance ministry said the budget deficit fell by 23.4 percent in the January-March period, from an 11.8 percent budget target for 2008. The State Accounting Office in a statement said the introduction of a new tax levy on real estate properties and measures aimed at a more efficient management of fuel market were expected to bring additional revenues in the next few months. It also said that revenue returns grew 26.9 percent in the three-month period.

    Primary spending rose 0.4 percent in the January-March period, sharply off compared with a budget target of 8.3 pct, with spending on interest rising 3.2 pct from a budget target of 7.2 pct.

    A Public Investments Program's proceeds fell by 36.1 pct in the first quarter, sharply exceeding a 7.0 pct decline budget target, with spending down 34.9 pct from a budget target of a growth rate of 5.6 pct.
