"And these demanded by the management was decided by the government," the KKE announcement said, calling for the abolition of the Value Added Tax (VAT) and dues.

"The privatization of the PPC which was created by the governments of the deregulation of the market, did not operate to the benefit of the people but in favour of the increase of the profits of the plutocracy," the KKE announcement added.

"Hands off the PPC�s rates," he stressed.

The Coalition leader said that ?the consumers already pay a high cost for electricity, particularly the working people, "through conditions of a high cost of living and extremely low salaries."

In joint statements after a meeting with her Romanian counterpart Adrian Cioroianu, she stressed that Athens considers the achievement of a mutually acceptable solution to the issue of FYROM's name a fundamental criterion of good neighbour relations that must be satisfied in order for the country to join NATO.

"For us the name is a priority and we have repeatedly demonstrated our good will so we now expect Skopje to cover the remaining half of the distance, in order to find a mutually acceptable solution that has already been delayed too long," she stressed.

Cioroianu, meanwhile, noted in response to questions by journalists that "good neighbour relations were a sine qua non condition for a true alliance."

"As a member-state of the EU and of NATO and as the organiser of the NATO summit, it must be clear that good neighbour relations are important," he added, referring to the next NATO summit taking place in Bucharest when FYROM may be invited to join the Alliance.

During their meeting, the two foreign ministers also extensively discussed the issue of Kosovo, which Bakoyannis described as "a problem in the heart of Europe, the stability of which concerns us all". She repeated Greece's warnings against unilateral action and expressed support for the Kosovo Troika currently striving to negotiate a solution, while stressing that Europe had a say both now and in the future.

The two ministers also agreed on enhancing cooperation between the three Balkan countries in the EU, which included Greece, Romania and Bulgaria.

In her talks with Cioroianu, Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu and the president of the Romanian Senate Nicolae Vacaroiu, Bakoyannis briefed Romania's leadership on a Greek proposal that she submitted at the EU General Affairs Council on Monday, calling for a renewal of the EU commitment to the western Balkans and their incentives to strive for EU entry.

Finally, the two sides expressed satisfaction at the strong and rising presence of Greek businesses in Romania's banking sector, telecommunications sector and others.

Shortly before her departure for Athens later on Thursday night, Bakoyannis was due to meet Romania's Orthodox Patriarch Daniel.
