[01] PASOK leader visits Kato Pteri
Main opposition PASOK party leader George Papandreou visited the
community of Kato Pteri, in the prefecture of Achaia in the
Peloponnese, on Saturday that had been ravaged by wildfires last month,
promising that his government will create a reconstruction programme
for the region.
Papandreou was briefed by local inhabitants and by Achaia Prefect
Dimitris Katsikopoulos on current problems, such as farmers not having
been compensated yet, while the closure of Parliament in light of the
general elections is delaying the ratification of the necessary funding
programme.
Papandreou said that a developing disaster is being witnessed since the
repercussions of the wildfires will be longterm ones both for the
environment and for agricultural production.
