[01] Minister announces draft laws on pension funds
Labour and Social Insurances Minister Savvas Tsitouridis announced
during the weekend that the government will proceed with several
legislative initiatives before the summer to codify the guidelines
governing the management of state-run pension funds' assets.
Tsitouridis made the comment from Thessaloniki following his meeting
with the board of the city's bar association.
His statement comes after a firestorm of opposition criticism this past
week regarding transactions and the investment of funds by the
brokerage firm Akropolis for its biggest client, the civil servants'
auxiliary pension fund.
"The problem that arose obviously makes it clear that we need to
rapidly to move in this direction," he said, adding that a report by
the Capital Markets Commission focusing on the brokerage firm in
question will be released on Monday.
