Prime minister Costas Karamanlis will address the plenary of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg on Wednesday. He is also due to meet with the Parliamentary Assembly president, the Council of Europe secretary general, and the Commissioner for Human Rights.

Karamanlis will meet with Parliamentary Assembly president Rene van der Linden on Wednesday, before addressing the Assembly at noon.

After the Parliamentary Assembly session, Karamanlis will attend a luncheon in his honour hosted by van der Linden, while afterwards he will meet with Council of Europe secretary general Terry Davis, followed by a meeting with CoE Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg.

Meanwhile, in statements to ANA-MPA in Thessaloniki, national economy and finance minister George Alogoskoufis said that Greece's current accounts balance is expected to post an improvement over the coming years, through the reforms being advanced by the government. "We're speaking about a change of course that began less than three years ago. Another year will be needed for the results of this policy of reforms to become fully apparent, the minister stressed.
